In 2019 The Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom” and the Central Israelite Religious Council partner with The Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights on the project “Learning from the Past – Acting for the Future”: Teaching about the Holocaust and Social Justice. On Bulgarian side, we are happy to cooperate with AUBG and AMALIPE Center for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance.
The aim of the project is to contribute to increasing the quality of education regarding the Holocaust and social justice in Bulgaria. The program provides a rich opportunity to integrate national and international approaches in teaching about these topics and in understanding the contemporary relevance of this important part of modern history.
Named after Holocaus survivor writer and philanthropist of Romanian origin Olga Lengyel, the institute was established to educate students in the United States, Europe, and other parts of the world about human rights and social justice through the lens of the Holocaust and other genocides so that such atrocities may never again take place.
