On March 10th 2016 the Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria Shalom marked the Day of the Salvation with a special commemoration in front of the Dimitar Peshev memorial in downtown Sofia. As part of the official ceremony, speeches were delivered by Dr. Alexander Oscar – Vice President of Shalom, Mr. Dimitar Glavchev – Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly, Dr. Todor Chobanov – Deputy Mayor of Sofia and H.E. Mrs. Irit Lilian – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Bulgaria. A commemorative address on behalf of the Bulgarian Prime Minister – Mr. Boyko Borissov, was read by the President of Shalom Dr. Maxim Benvenisti.

The ceremony on the occasion of the 73rd Anniversary of the Salvation of the Bulgarian Jews and honoring the victims of the Holocaust was attended by members of the Parliament, government officials and representatives of the President’s Office, ambassadors and many ordinary guests. A designated delegation of Bulgarian Jews from Israel arrived specially for the ceremony. Part of it was the famous Tzadikoff Choir who performed a couple of Bulgarian songs and the national anthems of Bulgaria and Israel.
